Iranian short film ‘Bitter Sea’ wins Turkish honor

Iranian short ‘Bitter Sea’ wins Honorable Mention at the 24th Int'l Adana Film Festival in Turkey.

Iranian Short ‘Bitter Sea’ has won an Honorable Mention at the 24th edition of the International Adana Film Festival in Turkey.

Written and directed by Fatemeh Ahmadi, ‘Bitter Sea’ is about the suffering of an immigrant mother.

It tells the story of a Romanian single mother who escapes from an abusive husband and flees to London to build a better future for her daughter.

She has found a job and place to live, but the landlord has a strict ‘no children allowed’ policy. Trapped in an impossible situation, she has to find a way to hide her daughter being in the flat.

Produced in the UK, it was earlier screened at the 71st Cannes Film Festival in France, last year’s Berlinale in Germany, and the 39th Durban International Film Festival in South Africa.

Other Iranian titles that competed at the Turkish festival include ‘Visor’ by Mohammad Qanefard, ‘Thousand Myths’ by Abbas Jalali-Yekta, ‘Amir’ by Nima Eqlima, and ‘Are You Volleyball?!’ by Mohammad Bakhshi.

The 24th edition of the International Adana Film Festival was held on September 23-30, 2018, in Turkey.
